## 1. Purpose and scope

This leave policy sets out the types of leave available to employees of [Company Name], how much leave they are entitled to, and how to request and approve it. It applies to [all employees / full-time employees / the groups you choose] at [Company Name].

## 2. Leave types

[Company Name] offers the following types of leave:

- **Annual leave** (paid time off for rest and vacation)
- **Sick leave** (paid time off for illness or medical needs)
- **Casual leave** (short, unplanned personal absences)
- **Unpaid leave** (approved time off without pay)

- **[Y] days** of sick leave per [year / calendar year]
- **[Z] days** of casual leave per [year / calendar year]

Leave [accrues gradually over the year / is granted in full at the start of the year]. Entitlement for part-time employees and for those who join partway through the year is prorated based on [hours worked / start date].

## 4. Requesting leave

To request leave, submit the following through [your chosen method, for example an HR system, form, or your manager]:

- The type of leave

Leave is not confirmed until it has been formally approved. Please do not book travel or make commitments before you receive approval.

## 5. Approval

Requests are reviewed by your [direct manager / team lead]. [HR / a second approver] also reviews absences longer than [X] days. We aim to respond to requests within **[X] working days**.

When more people request the same period than we can release at once, requests are prioritised by [first come first served / business need / another rule you choose].

## 6. Notice periods

- **Planned leave:** give at least **[X] working days** notice, or **[X] weeks** for absences longer than **[Y] days**.
- **Sick leave:** notify your manager by [time, for example the start of your shift]. Absences longer than **[Z] days** may require [a medical note or other supporting documentation].
- **Emergency or casual leave:** notify your manager as soon as reasonably possible.

## 7. Carry-over

At the end of each [year], employees may carry over up to **[X] days** of unused annual leave into the next period. Carried-over leave must be used by **[date]**. Any remaining balance is [forfeited / paid out], subject to your local laws.

## 8. Public holidays

Employees are entitled to the public holidays observed in [region or country]. These do not count against annual leave. When a public holiday falls on a non-working day, [state what happens, for example the holiday moves to the next working day]. Employees who work on a public holiday receive [time off in lieu / a premium rate / another arrangement].

## 9. Work from home and remote days

Work-from-home and remote days are separate from leave and are not deducted from any leave balance. Log remote days through [your chosen method]. Employees may work remotely up to **[X] days** per [week / month], subject to [manager approval / team agreement].

## 10. Return to work and records

If your return date changes, please confirm the new date with your manager. [Company Name] keeps a record of all leave taken. For questions about your balance, entitlement, or this policy, contact [name, role, or team].
